5.0 out of 5 stars What Alex Cross Doesn't Know Might Hurt Him, November 16, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Cross Fire (Alex Cross) (Hardcover)
Author James Patterson tells the reader something crucial early on, but it's not revealed to the key character, Detective Alex Cross. I found myself wondering exactly how and when Cross would find out for himself. Of course, I'm not going to give you any clues, but this mystery did keep me turning the pages.

The novel is largely about a series of murders in Washington, D.C., Cross's base. The victims include a corrupt politician, a crooked lobbyist, and a venal tycoon. These were people hated by many, but Cross is determined to solve the case. While investigating the murders, he finds a complex math formula in a most unusual place, gets a big lead from a submerged Suburban, and makes a life-long commitment.

Also in the picture is Kyle Craig, Cross's long-time nemesis. Patterson does a good job constructing Craig as a total monster.

This is the twelfth book written or co-written by James Patterson that I have reviewed for this site. It's near the top of the list. The prose is skillfully crafted. The pages fly by.

Bravo!
I am an avid reader and have read countless legal thrillers over the years. As a retired Federal Judge with 24 years of experience, I can tell you that you will never find a more realistic portrait of how the legal system works and, more importantly, how often it does not. Run do not walk to your bookstore and grab this one. You won't be sorry.

5.0 out of 5 stars A new dawn for Dirk Pitt?, November 18, 2010
This review is from: Crescent Dawn (Dirk Pitt Adventure) (Hardcover)
Dirk Pitt returns after a two-year hiatus, "Arctic Drift" (11/08). Several years ago another favorite author of mine Craig Thomas wrote a novel titled "All the Grey Cats." In it he brought together many of his older characters. Clive Cussler does that in "Crescent Dawn." It just feels comfortable to have Dirk, Rudi and Al back again. Publishers Weekly called it "bloated" but when you look at the four Dirk Cussler novels, they're all about 550 pages in length. The Cusslers pull out all the old cliches, but they still work for me. You will enjoy this one too

These are the pick 3 from the NY bestselling.

Return to the Time of Huck Finn

As a child I recollect
sitting at my desk
as the teacher pulled out a book.
About 2nd maybe 3rd
grade.
The story time was always enjoyable.
I remember Onion John,
Another seems kind of vague...too
many grey hairs I guess, a kid who time traveled.
The most popular of all among most of us was
Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn.

The adventures of Tom Sawyer was
always entertaining.
Now some of you may not
have the foggiest idea of what I
am talking about.
That is alright.

Mark Twain wrote several stories
that kept people entertained.
Some of us grew up to these stories.
Mark Twain passed away a long
time ago.
His autobiography was discovered
with a special not.
He wanted a 100 years to pass
before publishing.
Well my friends the 100 years has passed.
This book has been released.
The autobiography of Mark Twain
volume 1.

This is on my list of must reads.
I encourage all to
take a step back
in time and rediscover
the life of Mar Twain.
